That makes sense, NOT...
By Ed McCaffrey, verified user — Thu, 12/22/2011 - 00:52

“In the town policy, they get the day before Christmas and Christmas for a holiday,".
Since they have both of those days off already because they fall on a weekend this year, why does that entitle those people to two extra days off as well? The rest of us have to work, some of us even on Saturday and Sunday.

Word around town is that Eric was dispondent and waving a gun around outside his house scaring the crap out of the neighbors. Rumford police were called to help and …

Poor Ira, When growing up I had been trained that one of the first things you do when moving to a different community is to go and register to vote. I guess that somewhere along the way it stopped being instilled into your head that is a responsibility of …

Repeal Labor Day

Fri Sep 02, 2011 6:45 pm by T

After all, the 1894 legislation making it a national holiday was rushed through the US Congress following the deaths of a number of workers during the Pullman Strike.

The deaths of these ungrateful union workers unfairly cast Corporate America in a bad light. Instead of striking, these workers should have been thankful they had

Resign

Fri Sep 23, 2011 7:51 am by T

“We don't think they're egregious citations,” Cole said.

Of course you don't when the buck stops at your desk.

How can society fight and eliminate such blatant exaggeration and ignorance?

Sat Sep 03, 2011 9:39 am by T

Paul St. Jean of Lewiston, ME: Don't recall if it's in New York or New Jersey, but there are teachers being paid in excess of $60,000 a year to sit in a room all day doing nothing. They've been deemed not fit to teach in the classrooms for various reasons, but the school dept. can't release them because they're protected by the union.

Heating oil prices starting season high

A silver lining in many an economic downturn: low-cost heating oil.

But not this time.

The statewide average price in Maine is already 78 cents a gallon higher than early September 2010, roughly $3.34 a gallon.

“That’s a lot of money to people,” said Kenneth Fletcher, director of the state Office of Energy Independence and Security.

He said the …

Re-Open the Budget, End the Moratorium, Save the Town

Sat Aug 20, 2011 8:10 pm by Big Jim

My column for River Valley Sun this week.

Rumford, Maine-Companies, like responsible individuals, hold their financial information close to the vest. Companies keep financial information, especially any possible impending difficulties firmly under wraps in order to protect business relationships, to continue to be able to purchase what they need without difficulty for example and protect stock …
