Byron residents submit petition to recall selectman

Post by T on Fri Mar 22, 2013 5:30 am

BYRON – A recall petition was submitted to the Town Office on Thursday, asking for the recall of Selectman Anne Simmons-Edmunds.

Simmons-Edmunds said Thursday that she had been notified earlier about the petition, but wasn't aware of any specific details.

Town Clerk Allison Freeman confirmed that the 17 signatures on the petition belonged to registered voters of the town, and all that remains to make it official is to present it before the Board of Selectmen.

Selectman Patrick Knapp-Veilleux called the recall petition on Head Selectman Anne Simmons-Edmunds “ridiculous” Friday afternoon, a day after the petition was submitted to the town office. “I think that the person who submitted the petition to remove Anne from office has a beef with her, and what's personal should remain personal,” Veilleux said.

Of course Mr. Bourassa has a "personal" beef with Simmons-Edmunds, as do many other residents of Byron. When the GOVERNMENT (Simmons-Edmunds) of Byron attempts to FORCE its citizens to purchase (if necessary) and maintain a gun in his or her residence, in direct violation of Maine law, it IS personal. But, it is Simmons-Edmunds who has made it so. She is an ignorant, arrogant, right-wing, Tea Party type that subscribes to the "in your face" "my way or the highway" style of governing without regard to law and the opinions and feelings of her constituents. Simmons-Edmunds was attempting to advance her own "personal" agenda, not the agenda of the residents of Byron.

Simmons-Edmunds announced publicly "Unlike Sabattus, we're going to pass it." WRONG

"I think that this issue should stay personal and leave the town out of it. Byron doesn't need another scandal.”

Mr. Veilleux, you should have thought of that before your Head Selectman pushed to have this article included on the warrant. You're on the board, you could have done something about it before Simmons-Edmunds subjected your town to ridicule and embarrassment.

Right-wing Tea Party types, take notice. When you do something stupid, expect reasonable people to push back.

BYRON — Voters will decide Wednesday whether or not to recall one of their selectman.

Voting will take place from noon to 7 p.m. May 8 at the Town Office.

Selectman Anne Simmons-Edmunds is the subject of the recall petition, which was submitted to the town on March 21

Reasons:

* Violating her oath of office to uphold the constitution and laws of the state of Maine.

* Originating and causing the firearm ordinance article to be included on the Byron town meeting warrant without regard to state law that provides clarification on how a municipality announces an ordinance.

* Failing to inform voters at town meeting of state law that would have voided the firearm ordinance, if passed.

* Misleading voters at the town meeting, intentionally or otherwise, regarding a newspaper story about her by telling them she was misquoted.

* Subjecting residents of the town to ridicule, embarrassment and disrepute, intentionally or otherwise, by her actions and statements to the news media regarding the firearm ordinance article in the warrant.
