What a bunch of bull crap...

God's handiwork

How often do we take a good look at ourselves in a mirror? Or, perhaps I should ask, how often do we look out our windows and take a good look at God's handiwork?

We have to admit that what we see outside that window is not something humans could ever accomplish. As we see a ground covered with pure white snow and the sun shining on the ice-covered tree branches, remember that God does that for us.

In reality, I have to admit that not everyone may see things the way I do. For, like the snow, we push it around and the dirt gets mixed in, and it seems like some are trying to be like a large snow shovel and push God out of everything.

The Ten Commandments are no longer boldly displayed; prayer is no longer a part of the school routine and heaven forbid that a child should bring the word of God into the classroom.

Will "In God We Trust" be taken off U.S. money?

That can be done, as the other things I mentioned have been done, but God will always be here, you can be sure of that.

For those who would question that, the next time you walk out your door, feel the sun as it greets you; feel the cool breeze across your face from a wind you cannot see.

Stop and think; look out the window. Don't leave God out.

LaVerne Williams, Durham

The last time I was in my church, the Ten Commandments were "boldly displayed" as they are in every Christian place of worship in the United States.  That's the way it's always been and will be. The US Constitution and First Amendment guarantees it.

Prayer has not been a part of the public "school routine" for decades (5+ to be exact), probably since before you were born LaVerne.   And, somehow we are managing.

Any child can bring "the word of God" to school if he or she so chooses.  This is evidenced by the many public school "clubs" across the United States which exist for this very purpose.  Again, the US Constitution and First Amendment guarantees it.

What the United States Supreme Court decided in 1962 was, public schools cannot teach or endorse any religion, not just Christianity; Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc.  If you allow one religion to be taught, you must allow all to be taught.  Somehow I think you'd be a tad upset if your local elementary school was allowing its teachers to spread the word of Islam.  So, let's keep the teaching of religion out of our taxpayer supported, public schools, and leave it to the family, private schools, and organized religion.

And oh, I know many of your ilk believe it was liberal, socialistic, secular atheists who "removed" religion from our public schools. You'd be surprised to learn that it was Steven Engel, a Jewish New Yorker, who in 1958 sued New York State over state-endorsed prayer that was being recited in schools. The Supreme Court inevitably sided with Engel in 1962.

Will "In God We Trust" be taken off our money? Have you no respect for our billionaire atheists?
