Plight of the elderly

Post by T on Tue Feb 07, 2017 7:14 pm

LePig wants to help the elderly, yet he wants to eliminate the COLA (for another two years) for Maine's elderly retired teachers. Through no fault of their own, the vast majority of Maine's retired teachers DO NOT get Social Security, which does provide an annual COLA.  Those that do get Social Security have their benefit reduced by 63% due to the WEP and GPO.  U.S. Representative Poliquin, U.S. Senator Collins, and others, have been trying to eliminate the WEP and GPO for Maine's retired teachers, without success.
I applaud their efforts.  applause

LePig? He's just a jerk.

Paul LePage to discuss plight of elderly in address to Legislature

AUGUSTA — Maine's Republican governor is set to discuss the elderly in a formal address after a one-year hiatus from the longstanding tradition.

The State of the State address is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Gov. Paul LePig says he'll bring in elderly residents who have been thrown out of their homes along with individuals with mental illnesses.

The governor says his final two-year budget proposal protects the elderly from economic harm caused by initiatives he believes voters didn't understand.

Last year, LePig decided against a traditional address and instead sent the Legislature a letter that attacked "socialists" and said lawmakers were more beholden to egoism and lobbyists than the Maine people.

But in a shift, LePig has invited Republicans and Democrats over to the Blaine House residence after Tuesday's address. On Monday, he said he'd have his administration officials answer lawmakers' questions if "civility returns."
