What happened to the thread ?

Post by Guest on Tue Nov 18, 2008 10:40 pm

We seem to be missing a thread, and missing more than just Kevin's deletion of his own posts. What happened? This is not a funny thing to be doing......there are some of us (well, at least me) who spend the day in and out of the wisps of dementia. I'm not ready to lose my mind. Please, an explanation????????? Thanks.

Kevin saw fit to remove more than 25% of the thread which he intiated. I simply removed the whole thread and the ability to edit posts. When people start changing and removing what they have posted after others have responded, it changes the whole dynamics of the conversation, often unfairly to those who have responded. I'm all for editing typos, adding info or even re-phrasing a comment, but when you remove the reply completely or totally change it, that isn't fair to those you've engaged in conversation. I hope you understand my decision to remove the whole thread. dunno

C, Thank you for the explanation. I'm relieved to know I had not experienced a bout with dissociation, nor had I ventured into that foggy land of dementia!

Bug, I think that C was trying to say that because Kevin deleted so many of his comments in that thread, the posts from other members didn't seem to fit. I'm sure that we can still edit our most recent posts. In fact, I'll try it now.

Guess I was wrong...or maybe you can edit only those threads that you originate.

Looks like we can still edit items posted under "Accountability"?

Lol, my other option is to put something in the rules and put any offender on a week suspension should they abuse the edit privilege...
do you guys think that is a better option?

Well, has anyone else "over-edited" before? I vote for giving us another chance. If not, I may have to learn to check my posts before hitting that send button.
It looks like YOU HAVE THE POWER! grin

I edit only for spelling. I try to make my posts inoffensive to others without comprimising my position on whatever topic. If I do post anything offensive, I would be willing to edit it and try not to change the content of my post. If I am wrong about something I post, I will submit another post conceding that I am wrong, rather than deleting the origional post, amking others wonder what everyone else is babbling about. But that's just me. What do I know.

I'm restoring the edit function- please note I have made an addition to the forum rules.

NOTICE- Editing posts is a privilege- any one abusing this privilege
will result in the members posting privileges being
suspended for a length of time determined by the moderator. If we find
it becomes a big problem we will disable that forum option.
Editing posts for grammatical error, additional information
or re-phrasing is fine so long as it doesn't confuse or misrepresent
the responses of those who have posted after you. We are just asking
for some common sense. If you're not sure, please ask. Once a topic has
been replied to please do not change the topic title. In some cases
members have asked to have posts removed or topics they have initiated
removed. This is done at the discretion of the
administration/moderators.
