Rumford Municipal Building Evacuated as Precaution

Post by KevinNSaisi on Fri Dec 05, 2008 8:20 pm

Rumford, Maine - At approxemately 3:30pm today the Police Chief Stacy Carter called for an evacuation of the Rumford Municipal Building in response to having received some military equipment including what was determined to be an old grenade. There were no reports of explosive detonation nor injuries in the incident. Explosive authorities have reportedly been called in to evaluate the grenade. No further information is available at this time.

I really like the term " explosive authorities".

oh, and just why, pray tell, is the municipal building receiving military equipment? I know this forum gets heated, but honestly... it's not THAT bad!

Yea, when I reread it, I was thinking of someone besides the bomb squad.

Perhaps crime is worse off than we think Shocked

Actually, In believe it was some WW II equipment brought in by a resident for safety concerns. We certainly don't need that stuff falling in the wrong hands (thought it would take care of some of these run down buildings in a hurry).

Yea, me too. Anytime I aquire WMDs, I turn them over to the government. I wouldn't want GWB surrounding my home with the entire military and knocking down statues of me in the quest for WMDs that aren't here. Smile He might find my oil wells Wink

Actually we have had two recent experiences up here with old crystalized explosives. Most people don't know what to do with them and bring them either to city hall or the PD. Last one we had an officer actually walk throught the department with a stick of dynamite that was dripping!!!!! Needless to say I am still alive. Just a suggestion for anyone who has or who finds old explosives. DO NOT transport the items. Leave them alone and call the PD.
