I think seven selectmen would be better than the five we have now. What do you think??

Aside from the math making sense, I need more convincing that seven individual selectmen with diverse personalities, backgrounds and goals are going to interact any better than five. At the same time convince me that a larger board will reduce the possibility for power and control issues. There may be some boards where it works. It certainly has been proved by the MedCare board that the it doesn't break up a power base. So, PLEASE explain it to me.

While gender may have an impact, I think it would be best to stick to a basic discussion without adding those variables. If you would like to add a thread about women on the board, I would encourage you to do so.

In a perfect world Rolling Eyes this would be two females without prior relationships to members who sit on other boards. Or are members of special interest groups such as the Citizens For Fiscal Responsibility. We sorely need some impartiality (and less testosterone) when it comes to the select board.

Seriously, C, i don't know why people like you and Timeout don't consider a run. I know it's exhausting to set yourselves up for the acid and vitriol that seem so much a part of the town politics, but you are both big girls (i mean in the "grown-up" sense) and should be able to handle it.

What about a 3 member board??? If seven can't/won't be done do you think 3 would work better than 5?

The topic Kevin, despite the confusing title, is about the size of our select board. And you wonder why you need to be reprimanded? You're at it again...

No, the topic is whether seven is better than five. By your own rules you need to start another thread.

The problem with seven is that it could lead to a town council form of government.

When Jim T. was selectman he had pushed to have the board increased to 7 because at least in his mind that would then make it a town council form of government. Maybe I was mislead.

Are there any benefits to having a town council form of government?

If I understand the concept of the council, this would take away the best interest of the voters and the council would make all final decisions without input of the citizens. If anyone has clarity on this please correct me.
