Sun Journal Award

Post by dr on Fri Mar 13, 2009 3:22 pm

From the Sun Journal:

Sun Journal honored by NENA for Rumford reporting
Associated Press

BOSTON (AP) – Ten newspapers, including the Sun Journal of Lewiston, were honored Friday for outstanding reporting done in the spirit of courage and independence of Publick Occurrences, the nation's first newspaper, by the New England Newspaper Association.

The Publick Occurrences Awards were established in 1991 to mark the 300th anniversary of Publick Occurrences Both Foreign and Domestick, published in the United States despite censorship from the British crown.

The award winners, selected by Nieman Fellows at Harvard University, were recognized at the annual spring publishers conference in Boston.

Winners included:

– Sun Journal, Lewiston, Maine, for its reporting on Rumford, Maine, which provided detailed but fair coverage of nutty small-town politicians.

Well...? dunno

Just so everyone is aware that those are not the words of the Sun Journal, but the folks who chose the Sun Journal for the award.

This is just hilarious.

By the way, congratulations to the Sun Journal.

Does anyone have any theories about why Rumford is so uniquely "nutty"? is it in the water?
