CAMERON/RFD - MORE NEEDS TO BE SAID

Submitted by TRR Staff at 7/15/2008 12:05:00 AM

The practice of bartering is as old as history itself; goods and/or services are exchanged. While it was noble of Selectman Cameron to publicly state that he had asked for the Firefighters Union to support his candidacy, he never stated what he had promised the RFD in return for that support. By his failure to explain what the arrangement was, it leaves the voters to surmise that the price of the Union's letter in the Times was his backing of the Fire Department's bloated budget.

One does not have to be an "expert" in the Charter to be able to read the By-laws; certainly a Charter Commissioner like Mr. Cameron should have been able to do that. With that said the fault still lands on Union President Mark Tripp for either not knowing his job or by his knowingly leading his members into doing something wrong. The remaining question is what will this do to Mr. Cameron's chances in the Fall elections.

It's rather presumptuous of them to assume any exchanged promises. In my experience it is common practice to do for someone without anything expected in return. It sounds like Mr. Cameron has made his way onto their black list, especially where they "surmise" and try to pass this off as the mindset of all the voters.

This is quoted from TRR regarding the casino issue:
The BOS as a whole did not make a definite stance as to whether or not
they were in approval of the project until specific questions are
answered. Mark Belanger, Frank DiConzo, and Arthur Boivin did express
being in favor of the project. Rob Cameron stated that he is on the
fence.

Just like any endorsement, the entity doing the endorsement is likely to endorse only those who meet their criteria. Any presumption of secret deals without substantial proof would be irresponsible. Therefore we can either believe that TRR has the proof, or we can believe they are being irresponsible, the choice is ours.
